on the subject of spiritual gifts, it is nessesary to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit first. this is different than water baptism in that instead of being submerged in water we are submerged in spirit. His Spirit! now it is very possible and very probable to have many gifts. for example does the bible ever say that you have to have the gift of healing to heal people? no. it says that if you believe that God has already answered your prayer that you can heal any disease, soften any heart, calm any storm, cast out any demon, and storm the gates of hell in the process! hallelujah!

The baptism of the Holy Spirit also involves a refining process -

Luke 3
[16] John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with FIRE:

[17] Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.

John can do no more than baptize with water, in token that they ought to purify and cleanse themselves; but Christ can, and will baptize with the Holy Ghost; he can give the Spirit, to cleanse and purify the heart, not only as water washes off the dirt on the outside, but as fire clears out the dross that is within, and melts down the metal, that it may be cast into a new mould. http://bible.cc/luke/3-16.htm

Isa.48

[10] Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction.

Zech.13

[9] And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The LORD is my God.

Mal.3

[2] But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner's fire, and like fullers' soap:

[3] And he shall sit as a refiner and purifer of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness.
